Creating
Hand-painted Papers
Creating lots of beautiful & unique papers fast!
Sometimes all you need is a spark — a colour, a texture, or just one beautiful piece of paper to get the ideas flowing.
When I’m getting ready to make mobiles, I like to have a stack of papers prepped and ready to go. But let’s be honest… when you’re short on time, that prep can feel like it takes forever. My usual approach is Gelli printing, but I also love making quick painted papers and layering in a few stencilled or printed details. It’s such a fast, playful way to build up a pile of lovely papers to work with.
And of course, these papers aren’t just for mobiles — they’re perfect for collage, journals, cards, and any paper project you can dream up.
I also like to use this technique to make my own wrapping paper, usually giving myself a nice stash of lovely gift wrapping paper once or twice a year. (It’s crazy how often people love the wrapping as much as the present!)

Hi, I’m Maggie Bergman
I’m the Chief Creative Explorer at Maggie Bergman Art. I like to follow my curiosity wherever it takes me — paint, paper, wire, stencils… it’s all fair game!
I love those moments when something unexpected happens and suddenly a new idea opens up. That sense of play is really at the heart of everything I make.
If you love creative experimentation too — trying things just to see what happens, mixing techniques, following a spark — then we’re definitely on the same wavelength.
We’re going to have some fun together!
